So, have I mentioned that I like Soul Calibur? I mean, it may be the drugs talking, but I played the shit out of that game. For reals, yo. For months and months and *months* on end. I was at Sunnyvalle Golfland (with a posse!) on the day of SC2's American arcade release. I played off and on through the next year, once the Boardwalk had the machine. For many months it seemed like proximity to the Boardwalk and the Poet were the only redeeming elements of living at Holden, in the midst of that hostile household. But I digress.. . .

Does that make it any better/ That I bother to mention that I was digressing? I think I just committed one of those Bill Winningham/Fables plot faux pax. Shit. Gotta cover.

LOOK OVER THERE!

So, for the last several months there's been a low-level internal debate about whether I was going to buy a console to play SC2, and which one. Last week I totally caved, ordered a Cube from Gamestop and pre-ordered SC2, by all of 2 days. But it was enough of a preorder to have to ship in two different boxes. According to FedEx, the Gamecube and associated crap was delivered to our house Wednesday morning. It's nowhere. On Thursday afternoon, SC2 arrived along with the worthless art book. And, at this point, the worthless game. I'm torn between shoving the disc in to my DC out of willful incompetence, or just putting the damn thing into my mouth and hoping some Tron deus ex machina inversion to take place. Or at least it would choke me. So then [livejournal.com profile] jodisays could call up FedEx full of rage and sadness, which is apparently what it takes to get any sort of fucking action.

hey, you hate fed ex, not the mail. the mailman knows which house is ours, and doesn't claim to deliver to our back door. =)

Just of curiosity:

Why a cube and not a ps2 or xbox?

Does FedEx say someone signed for it, or did they just leave a console-sized box with a Gamestop return address on your porch and trust the neighbors to behave?

love and congrats

Well, the stupid end of this story is that they said they delivered it to :the back door." You've been to our apartment and know that we don't have a back door. We have a deck, which since we're on a hillside is essentially a second story balcony. But, 4 days later when cleaning up for the party, I stick my head outside and who do I find upsie down in the middle of the deck? Yeah, the Cube box. Our best guess is that they walked behind the house and flub the box up onto the patio. Either that or they trapsed through our home when no one was here. Not sure whihc one I'm less happy with.

A cube with Mario Sunshine was $90. A PS->GC controlled adapter was $10, so I could use my PSX arcade stick. So, with Calibur, Sunshine, tax and shipping, the entire package was $160. I know I'd like to play Metroid Prime, which John lent me, and the new Zelda. I know I don't have time in my schedule for epic RPGs, like most of the games I'm interested in on the PS2, and the XBOX I would only want to mod and fuck with which I also don't have the time for. And, the Cube is dying. It's home to most of Sega "weird" properties. It reminds me of the Dreamcast, circa mid-2000. Good times.

There are many of us around these parts. The 4-player Panel de Pon release is the primary reason I bought a cube.
