Job hunting is the bane of my existence. A call came through form the other HS in the district (i.e., LO, the old one)( for a possible position next year. Sigh. It will end up being the best money I can find, no doubt, with a reasonable class load. And, hell, Susan will be happy because I'm at the HS level and closer to something like math. I may even have K, A or a few other students in classes.
But it's low level Alg and Geo, and it's in the damn classroom again and it's another step on the fast track to being crotchety old mathman. And while it's well documented that I will only eat multiples of 5, I was really excited about stepping out of the classroom and moving toward the tech stuff that I think I have a better knack for. Certainly, the window for what I want to do with tech ed is rapidly being filled by people who are not goddamn me. I'll probably enjoy teaching math for a few more years. I could enjoy it long term, once I settle into some teacher persona that isn't wacky and haphazard. But every year I spend developing that persona is a year I could spend developing impressive dreads doing the tech ed that (IMHO) will stay engaging over the coming decades.
Look, I'm a geek. I like new shit almost patently because it is new. the idea of teaching math that was stodgy and outdated before the Confusion is somewhat depressing.
