Minor Hindrance: Dork Boyfriend
Dec. 2nd, 2003 08:19 amIn the .PDF version of the DL Player's Guide there's a neat letter from Shane Hensley describing his first DL game. Apparently he ran it as straight Civil War espionage for the first few missions, had the party caught and killed, then resurrected them all as Harrowed 13 years later. Not a bad intro.
In revisiting the system, even for this brief period, I realized how much of the story is embedded in the system. I mean, tale-tellin'? Spirit? Guts? Aside form the cutesy Wild West slang (dropped g's abound) there are at least 10 stats or major skills that are tied solely to the world and advancement of the main DL plot. Savage Worlds attempts to fix some of this, but in the process strips out a lot of the framework that I enjoyed in DL. I'm looking forward top playing a session or two of DL, just to see what I use and what sits unloved on the sidelines.
