Layout Notes
Jul. 31st, 2003 09:22 amThis is a page from Ellis/hammer's new 3 issue mini-series Red. I, and Jodi, are just about at the point where we're ready to drop the "Any Ellis book" policy. I skipped Scars, I'm skipping Tokyo Storm Warning, I wish I had skipped the last two issues of Global Frequency, etc. I really enjoy Ellis' plotting and concepts, but I've now read enough of his work that most of his dialouge reads like his dialouge to me, especially in these small series. Switchblade Honey and Orbiter have some great lines, but largely the lines are Ellis' and they just ahppen to come out of these mouths on the papers. Between Die Puny Humans and Bad Signal, I read a lot of Ellis in a given week. But I have a latent need to read spy comics, and in talking to Chun about his new script, I've become far more aware of how limited my thinking about layout and paneling is. So a page like this just blows me away. The slightly non-parallel lines of the top and bottom panels, combined with the extension into the margin make this a amazing piece of work.

So, does ths sbelong on comicnight? I have no idea anymore. . . .
